Homemade for the Holidays
November 21, 2017The holidays are a great time to do some baking. But who has the time? With this no-knead recipe from handletheheat.com and your favorite cast-iron skillet from Coastal, you’ll be able to make a tasty bread with a crispy cheesy crust. All it takes is a few minutes of work. The complete recipe can be found below the video.
Ingredients
- 2 ¼ teaspoons of instant yeast (1 package)
- 2 cups lukewarm water
- 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons chopped, fresh rosemary
- 1 ½ teaspoons fine salt
- 3 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
- ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
Directions
Combine yeast and water in a large mixing bowl. Add half of the flour and stir. Add rosemary, salt, and remaining flour and stir until combined.
Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until it doubles in size. Takes about 1 hour.
Brush 2 tablespoons of the olive oil over the bottom of your 10- or 12-inch cast-iron skillet. Shape the dough into a disk after sprinkling dough with flour. Place in the skillet, cover loosely, and let rise until puffy. This takes upwards of 30 minutes. While it’s rising, preheat your oven to 400º F.
Drizzle your additional olive oil over the top of the bread, cut an “X” into the top of the disk, and sprinkle with rosemary leaves. Place your skillet in the oven and bake for 20 minutes.
Remove from oven and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Then, put the skillet back into the oven and bake another 20 minutes.
