Hot Chocolate Popcorn
December 2, 2016Chocolate and popcorn are meant to be together. Seriously. Try this recipe for Hot Chocolate Popcorn and you’ll experience the perfect amount of sweet, salty, and savory goodness.
Ingredients
- 2 quarts popped corn
- 1/3 cup corn syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup water
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons butter (or margarine)
- 1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
Pop 2 quarts of dry popcorn. Then, grease a large bowl with butter (or margarine) and pour as much of the popcorn as you can into it.
In a saucepan, combine corn syrup, sugar, water and salt. Cook over medium heat. Stir frequently until the mixture reaches 235º. To ensure your mixture is ready, scoop a small portion out with a spoon and drop it into a cup of cold water. Then pull the mixture out. If it easily forms into a ball, your mixture is ready to go.
Now, add butter to the mixture. When it is melted completely, add your chocolate chips. Cook over low heat until the whole thing reaches 245º, and forms a “hard ball” in cold water.
Remove from heat, add vanilla and stir. Pour your glorious creation over the popcorn, stir to coat, and enjoy.
